According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job prospects for endocrinologists are expected to be very good going into the next decade, and much better than average compared to other careers in the health care field. An endocrinologist is a specially trained doctor that studies and diagnoses conditions related to an individual’s glandular and hormonal imbalances. After a physician completes the educational requirements, he or she has the option of specializing in endocrinology through completion of a fellowship. Typically, a fellowship in endocrinology takes two to three years to complete. After completion, a physician must pass an exam to be licensed as an endocrinologist. Salaries for endocrinologists vary from $160,000 to $215,000 per year depending on skill, experience, and geographical location.
