As the general population continues to age, demand and job opportunities for hospice nurse will be excellent. Working as a hospice nurse is an emotionally taxing job. Hospice nurses provide medicine and treatment to help critically ill patients be as comfortable as possible in their remaining days. Hospice nurses perform the majority of their care in a patient’s home, so reliable transportation is essential.
Educational requirements include the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or the completion of a nursing program. Graduates must pass a national nursing examination to become a Registered Nurse. In addition, an RN must be registered as a hospice nurse by each state’s health department. A hospice nurse can expect to earn between $20 to $30 per hour based on geographical location and the experience of the nurse.
