Job Summary
Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, and Medical Staff Policies, and any unique ambulatory patient services this Physician Assistant (PA) position is assigned to in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. This AHP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice”. In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website. The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL SPs on the list. This position may provide patient care in approved age groups and UCSF Health licensed settings. The AHP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within all UCSF medical center locations Ambulatory clinics where orthopaedics practices and in the operating room
Required Qualifications
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations and in varying schedules as outlined
Must have graduated from a Physician’s Assistant Program
Must be certified by the National Commission on Certification and licensed in the State of California
Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described
Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population
Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions
Prior experience in medical office environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and training in orthopaedics
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS (all are required for duration of employment
License/Certification
Must hold an active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA
California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position
Must hold current national board certification by first day of work and maintain
Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
Must have completed an APA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant
Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.
UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
