Position Summary



The College seeks a Senior Assistant Director for the Mental Health Counseling and Wellness Office. Reporting to the Director of Mental Health Counseling and Wellness, the Senior Assistant Director's duties include but are not limited to the allocation of cases to mental health counselors and interns, providing short-term mental health counseling for a caseload of high-risk students, and supporting the College's overarching goals of student success and diversity, equity and inclusion. The individual will also be responsible for developing and implementing various wellness workshops, presentations, group counseling sessions, and other outreach initiatives to raise awareness of available services and advocate for a stigma-free school environment. The Senior Assistant Director will supervise a small caseload of graduate-level interns from local academic institutions. Moreover, they are dedicated to cultivating partnerships with community stakeholders to bolster student well-being while nurturing a culture of collaboration and collective accountability. Additionally, they will support the Director in securing and executing departmental grants.





What you would be doing in this role:





Office Leadership Responsibilities:




  • Provide training and clinical supervision for mental health counseling staff, part-time staff, and graduate interns.

  • Assist the Director with case assignments and ensure all documents are uploaded to the clinical database.

  • Collaborate and communicate with community providers to arrange programming for student wellness.

  • Assist the Director with monthly and annual reports and data collection.

  • Represent the Office of Mental Health Counseling and Wellness internally and externally.

  • Assist the Director in managing the Office's daily operations, including budget management.

  • Assist the Director in seeking, applying for, and administering appropriate mental health grants and awards.





Mental Health Counseling Responsibilities:




  • Carry a therapeutic counseling caseload of higher-risk students, offering direct mental health counseling.

  • Co-lead support groups.

  • Develop and facilitate programming to promote a stigma-free campus environment.

  • Serve as the primary advisor to the student-led Active Minds Club.

  • Co-facilitate crisis and suicidal students.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to deliver mental health first aid training and suicide prevention training to the HCCC campus community.

  • Participate in college committees and events to increase the Office's visibility and build partnerships across the College.

  • Other duties as assigned.





Required Qualifications




  • A Master's degree in Social Work with a current LCSW in good standing.

  • At least three years of experience providing individual and group counseling to a diverse population.

  • Ability to manage administrative responsibilities, including case management, triage, and crisis intervention services.

  • Demonstrated experience providing culturally competent services in an urban environment.

  • Superior verbal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement marketing strategies and programs/workshops.

  • Ability to incorporate data-informed decisions and evidence-based practices into daily work.

  • Effective listening and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to assess student issues, identify crises, think conceptually, and recommend or take appropriate action.

  • Strong crisis intervention skills with extensive experience treating a high-risk population in a clinical setting.





Preferred Qualifications




  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.

  • Dual licensure in NJ and NY.

  • Proficiency with various computer software programs, including Microsoft Office suite, Ellucian-Colleague, Medicat, and other medical records software.

  • Knowledge of student development and psychological theories and principles. Experience in college mental health preferred.
