Working as an anesthesiologist is a high paying career that is greatly in demand. To work as an anesthesiologist, an individual must be able to handle extremely stressful situations and think quickly on their feet. Anesthesiologists administer pain medication and are responsible for monitoring a patient during a surgical procedure. An anesthesiologist completes all educational and professional training that a regular physician does including attending undergraduate and medical school. In addition, an anesthesiologist completes an accredited residency program that focuses on the study of anesthesiology. The residency program takes four years to complete. Then, the board of medicine can certify a physician with a specialty in anesthesiology. A physician with a specialty in anesthesiology earns upwards of $300,000 per year on average.
