Neonatal ICU (NICU)
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses across all specialties will continue to be in demand, and job prospects in nursing will be excellent. Nurses working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) treat infants that are premature or have severe medical conditions. A NICU nurse can be stressful and challenging job that requires an individual to work long hours. To become a NICU nurse, a candidate must complete a Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree in nursing, or earn a certificate from a nursing program. Then, all graduates must pass a national examination to become a registered nurse. In addition to work in neonatology, an RN should earn a certificate in neonatal intensive care nursing or neonatal resuscitation provider. A nurse’s salary can vary on experience and education. An RN working in the NICU can expect to earn $50,000 to $65,000 per year.
